Jo Lloyd
History
 

Joanna Lloyd graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1995.

In 1997 she began working with Choreographer Shelley Lasica, performing in many of her works, including 'Action Situation', and more recently in 'A Play in a Room'. From 1998-2003 Jo worked with Dance Works. She performed in many works by Director Sandra Parker, including, 'In The Heart of The Eye' and 'Fraught', and in works by Choreographers Rebecca Hilton, Sue Healy, Ros Warby and Trevor Patrick, touring throughout Australia and internationally. In 2000 she was nominated for a Green Room Award for 'Best Female Dancer'. In 2003 Jo began working with Chunky Move, touring to Belgium and Moscow, performing in 'Australia's Most Wanted’, 'Crumpled' and 'Corrupted'. In 2004, Jo travelled to Japan, where she choreographed and performed, as part of an Asialink Residency with Tokyo based company Nibroll. In 2004, Jo performed in Chunky Move’s, ‘I Want to Dance Better at Parties’, and received a Green Room Award nomination for ‘Best Female Dancer’.

In 2005 Jo presented ‘High Maintenance’, a dance installation at the Chunky Move Studio, supported by Arts Victoria and Maximized by Chunky Move. Jo also performed with Chunky Move in ‘Infinite Temporal Series’, Choreographed by, Prue Lang, a work originally created with the Frankfurt Ballet. In April 2005 Jo returned to Japan where she choreographed and performed a new work, ‘Public=un+Public’, with Nibroll, as part of the Asialink Japan Dance Exchange program, ‘Neon Rising’. Jo will present this work in Melbourne at the Chunky Move Studio in Feb 2006. Jo also created 'Yes' for Natalie Cursio’s project, ‘The Album’ and toured with Natalie to Korea. Jo recently choreographed ‘Mute’, for Lucy Guerin’s ‘Pieces for Small Spaces’ program and ‘Being Social’ for the Dancehouse Graduate Showcase program. She also performed in works by Chunky Move and Shelley Lasica in the 2005 Melbourne International Festival. In 2006 Jo will present a new work, ‘Not As Others’ for the Adelaide Fringe Festival and choreograph a new work for Dance Works.

Jo has created several other works including; 'Clathrate' (1997), 'Sample' (1999), 'hospitalsandairports' (Emerging Choreographers Grant, Melbourne Fringe Festival 2001), 'Frank’ (Bodyworks 2002), and ‘Picnic’ (2004). Jo has also worked with Don Asker, New Zealand choreographer Nicole Bishop, Tracie Mitchell, video artist David Rosetzky, Phillip Adams and Frances d'Ath. Jo teaches regularly for Chunky Move, Lucy Guerin Inc, Dance Works, Victorian College of the Arts, Deakin University, Dancehouse and has taught for the Australian Dance Theatre, Western Australian Academy for Performing Arts, Tokyo Tama Art University and Busan University Korea.
